Rihanna Says She Has About 170 Unreleased Songs In The Vault

Rihanna has given fans another look at the enormous amount of material she's built up since her last album, revealing just how much unreleased music could be sitting in her vault. The singer has not dropped a new album since 2016's ANTI, leaving fans anxiously awaiting the project often referred to as R9. Her next album has been in the making for years, and people have been waiting, but Rihanna has yet to officially announce a release date.

Rihanna recently attended a Fenty Beauty event and was asked how many songs she has in the vault. Her response was a shockingly high estimate. Rihanna says she has around 170 songs. She arrived at that number by comparing her unreleased music to the Gloss Bomb Vault, saying that if there are 10 products in that vault, then she has at least 17 music vaults.

The phrase "at least" leaves open the possibility that the actual number could be higher. But a figure of around 170 songs gives an idea of how much music Rihanna may have made over the last ten years. The revelation is especially tantalizing for fans on the cusp of a new album. Since "ANTI", Rihanna has been busy working on other aspects of her life and career, including her Fenty Beauty business and raising her family with A$AP Rocky.

Although there has been huge anticipation for R9, there hasn't been a clear sign that the album is close to arriving. Rihanna doesn't seem to feel the same urgency to release a new project, even as fans keep hoping for new music. But that doesn't mean music is out of her creative universe. Her hint about the number of songs still needing to be recorded suggests she's been making music throughout the years since ANTI, even if we haven't heard much of it.

Fans are being asked to be patient for now. Rihanna could still drop new music down the line, but there's no confirmed indication R9 will land anytime soon. The vault itself is now part of the anticipation for Rihanna's next musical chapter. With an estimated 170 songs left unreleased, there is no shortage of material. It's just a matter of whether and when Rihanna feels it's time to share it.
