Drake and Lil Wayne Have Years of Unreleased Collaborations In the Vault Waiting

Lil Wayne and Drake may already have a long history together, but according to Wayne, fans have never heard much more of their music. The rapper recently admitted he and Drake have a backlog of unreleased collaborations dating back years, hinting that more of their joint work could eventually reach listeners.

Wayne apparently still hopes that those collaborations will formally see the light of day. He said he edits some of the older material and sends updated versions to Drake's phone so the Canadian rapper can hear them and get inspired to revisit the records.

The opportunity is particularly notable as it's been some time since Wayne and Drake appeared together on the same track. They most recently collaborated on Drake's 2021 album "Certified Lover Boy" for the song "You Only Live Twice." In the same year, the duo also teamed up with Nicki Minaj on "Seeing Green."

Speculation has long swirled around a larger Wayne-Drake collaboration. The success of Watch The Throne played a part in the decision, Drake confirmed in 2011 that plans for a joint project were scrapped. But years later the possibility seemed to resurface. About eight years after those earlier plans were shelved, Wayne suggested in an interview with Vibe that a collaborative project could be back on the table.

Wayne's latest comments, however, add another interesting angle to their long-running collaboration. Instead of just talking about new music, the rapper adds that they could revisit and release older recordings. That leaves an interesting possibility for fans, years of material from two of hip-hop's most familiar collaborators could be waiting in the wings.

It's unclear if the unreleased recordings will ever be an official project or released separately. But one thing is clear from Wayne's comments for now, there's a lot more music from him and Drake in the vault than fans have heard.
