Mikalyn gets caught between love and letting go on "Prisoner"

Canadian dream pop singer-songwriter Mikalyn opens up about the messy truth of toxic relationships in her new song "Prisoner." It's a reflective song about being stuck in a relationship neither of them can leave. "Prisoner," written and produced by Mikalyn and Chris Grey, delves into the emotional tug-of-war that can trap people in relationships they already know aren't good for them.

This song captures the contradiction of knowing someone is probably bad for you, but still going back to them. The song also touches on the self-destructive cycle of replacing a void of real emotional discomfort with a relationship. Putting a plaster on a bullet hole describes a relationship that may offer temporary relief but doesn't fix the underlying issue.

Mikalyn's "Prisoner" takes a complex subject and turns it into an intimate meditation on toxic attachment, toxic relationship behavior, and the struggle to get out. The result is a song about a feeling many can relate to: knowing something hurts you, but still struggling to let go. "Prisoner" thoughtfully examines the difficult middle ground of knowing a relationship is wrong and finally summoning the courage to leave.
