Jordanian-Canadian singer-songwriter Laila turns the aftermath of heartbreak into something beautifully honest in her new song, "Heart Doesn't Work Like That." The track leans into the confusion, the emotional back-and-forth, and the exposure that can come with trying to find your footing after a breakup.
Co-written by Laila Kharouba, Jon Pike, and Brandon Pero, "Heart Doesn't Work Like That" feels like it's set in the awkward space between knowing you should move on and feeling like your emotions are on their own clock. Laila accepts the fumbling and lets the messiness be part of the story, not something to hide. The production team of Jon Pike and Brandon Pero shaped the track, and they also mixed it. Kristian Montano beautifully recorded it. Chris Dimas laid down the drums, and Stu Weinberg played guitar.
"Heart Doesn't Work Like That" feels like a moment of letting go of the pressure to control every emotion. It captures the bizarre reality of moving on while carrying some of what's behind. Laila's latest release will resonate with many listeners. Healing is rarely a straight line, and sometimes the best way to move forward is to let yourself feel the way you feel.
