Kylie Minogue lets the music drive in "Tension"

Australian singer-songwriter Kylie Minogue's 16th studio album, "Tension," is a 14-track collection (11 tracks on the standard edition) that explores freedom, movement, and emotional contrast. The album features a guest appearance from Oliver Heldens. It is a collaboration with a range of producers including Carl Ryden, Cutfather, Daniel Davidsen, Duck Blackwell, Jackson Foote, Jon Green, Kasper Larsen, LOSTBOY, Oliver Heldens, PhD, Richard "Biff" Stannard and Sky Adams.

"Tension" was built around the individual nature of each song rather than a strict concept. The result is an album that swings between personal introspection, club energy, fantasy, and moments of melancholy, allowing each track to carve out its own character. "Padam Padam" instantly conveys that sense of connection, while "Hold On to Now" feels more contemplative, mixing questions about the future with a desire to stay present. "Things We Do for Love" keeps the album's frenetic energy, building momentum through its driving structure.

The title track, "Tension," is a curated journey that evolves from its deeper, clubby roots into something more balanced, yet still holding its sense of anticipation and release. "One More Time" lightens the mood a bit, with a freer, easier vibe, contemplating the possibility of rekindling a romantic relationship without making it too complicated.

"You Still Get Me High" adds another layer, blending different creative approaches into a track that feels indulgent and euphoric. "Hands", "Green Light" and "Vegas High" keep the album's momentum going, while "10 Out of 10" with Oliver Heldens brings a collaborative spark. "Story" brings the record back to a more personal place, reflecting on overcoming difficulty and recognizing the people whose support can become inseparable from one's life.

The deluxe edition continues the journey with "Love Train," "Just Imagine" and "Somebody to Love." In all its moods, "Tension" works by refusing to make each song conform to the same shape. Kylie Minogue gives each moment its own identity, creating an album that celebrates freedom, feeling, and the unexpected places a song can take you.
