Zak Abel opens a new chapter of emotional honesty with “What Love Is”

British singer-songwriter Zak Abel shares the track "What Love Is," out on February 3, 2023, his first new music in a year following January 2022's "Good Times. The track, written during Los Angeles's COVID lockdown, has all the reflective feels of that bizarre time period, in which distance and uncertainty partnered seamlessly with emotional explosions.

Written by Zak Abel, Brendan Grieve, and Conor Blake, the song embodies a spirit of collaboration between personal expression and crafted pop sensibility. And with production by Brendan Grieve and Liam J Dowell, the song offers a polished sonic world to rest into, emotional but still accessible in a contemporary context.

At its base, "What Love Is" is about how it feels to risk opening your heart after suffering some injury. The resilience to give love a second chance after heartbreak is at the heart of this song. The song embraces ambiguity and presents growth as an act of emotional risk.
